Practice Organization on a Daily Basis

Plan Your Week

Prepare Your Team

Monday - Wednesday - Friday Workout

  • Stretching – the best way to avoid pulled muscles is to go through your stretching prior to any workout. 
  • Concentration drill – shutting everything out – no distractions – keep everything in front of you and in perspective.
  • Running – ¾ sprints, poles, or squares 
  • Throwing – pitchers with pitchers or with catchers. 
  • Catchers with catchers or with pitchers. 
  • Infielders with infielders. Outfielders with outfielders. 
  • Warm up drills – warm up drills for infielders, outfielders, pitchers, and catchers. 
  • Group simulation – infielders, outfielders, pitchers, and catchers. Position simulation – covers any and everything that can happen in a game. Individual effort. 
  • Multiple Defensive Workout – outfielders together with their coach. Infielders at their positions, pitchers on the mound and catchers behind the plate. 
  • Outfield / Infield Workout – pregame workout. In practice outfielders throw to all bases and put in all situations.
  • Hitting and bunting practice. 

Tuesday - Thursday - Workout

  • Infielders with infielders. Outfielders with outfielders. Signals. 
  • Base running – all bases – all situations – steals witch catcher throwing 
  • Pick off plays – all bases and situations 
  • Hit and Run – set pitching screen to the side of first base 
  • Squeeze, sacrifice, and slash drill. Bunt Defense – all bases and situations 
  • Defending Special Situations – man on first and third, infield fly rule, etc. 
  • Hitting

Saturday Workout

  • Stretching 
  • Running 
  • Throwing Infield / Outfield Pregame Intrasquad Scrimmage 

Outfield Pre-Game Fungo

Left Fielder Round 1: 7-4-3-2-5-4-3-2-Shagger (S) or 7-6-4-3-2-5-4-3-2-S 
Left Fielder Round 2: 7-5-2-4-3-2-S or 7-5-2-4-Fake Double Play (FDP) -5-2-S 
Left Fielder Round 3: 7-2-Roll Bunt -3-6- FDP-5-2-S or 7-2-Roll Bunt -3-4-6 covers 3B -2-S 

Center Field Round 1: 8-6-3-2-5-4-3-2-S or 8-4-3-2-5-4-3-2-S 
Center Field Round 2: 8-5-2-4-3-2-S or 8-5-2-4-FDP-5-2-S 
Center Field Round 3: 8-2-Roll Bunt-3-6-FPD-5-2-S or 8-2-Roll Bunt 4 covers 1B-6 covers 2B-5-2-S 

Right Field Round 1: 9-6-3-2-5-4-3-2-S or 9-4-3-2-5-4-3-2-S 
Right Field Round 2: 9-5-2-4-3-2-S or 9-5-2-4-FPD-5-2-S 
Right Field Round 3: 9-2-Roll Bunt-3-6 FDP-5-2-S or 9-2-Roll Bunt 4 covers 1B-6 covers 2B-5-2-S 

In the three rounds above the outfielders have thrown to second, third and home plate. 

The catchers have thrown to third, second and first. 

Infield Pre-Game Fungo

Infielders will be at their respective base with shortstop and second sharing second base. The catcher will start the drill by throwing to 3B who then throws to 2B (either shortstop or second covering) and then throws to 1B then back to Home with the second catcher ready to go. 

All throws will be in this order:

Open inside / step throw 
Open outside / plant throw 
Inside tag / turn and throw 
Outside tag / turn and throw 
Drop knee / adjust make throw Double play action

Ground balls are hit in this order: 

  • 5-2, 5-3-2, 5-4-3-2, 
  • 6-2, 6-3-2, 6-4-3-2
  • 4-2, 4-3-2, 4-6-3-2
  • 3-tag base-6 tag runner-2,  3-6-4-2 
  • Pop-flies to all infielders 
  • Exiting the field
    • 5-3-2 come off field on first base side 
    • 6-3-2 come off field on first base side 
    • 4-3-2 come off field on third base side 
    • 3-take it yourself-2 come off the field on third base side 
    • Pop-ups to the catcher
